After 16 years of pressing plants for teaching and research, and running one of the largest herbariums in Canada, Linda PJ (Jennings) Lipsen has written Pressed Plants, Making a Herbarium, illustrated by Derek Tan and published by the Royal British Columbia Museum.
Pressed Plants responds to the recent revival of enthusiasm for nature, biodiversity, and conservation. Written for amateurs and hobbyists, instructors and researchers, Pressed Plants will teach you how to properly press plants to help document plant biodiversity so it is better understood, valued, and protected.
About the author:
Linda PJ Lipsen (Linda Jennings) is the collection’s curator of the University of British Columbia Herbarium at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. Linda holds an M.Sc. in botany and has previously worked for the UBC Botanical Garden and taught in UBC’s Department of Botany. She also instructs the Master Gardeners.

Derek Tan is an illustrator, photographer, multimedia designer, and the manager of exhibitions at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. He is a recipient of the 2019 Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Museums.
